I believe the scriptures support divorce for the cause of adultery and abandonment of an unbelieving spouse (Matt 19:9; 1 Cor 7:15). I definitely do not believe that the Lord desires anyone (male/female) to be subject to the torture and torments of an abusive marriage. This is why the apostle tells us, "And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife" (1 Cor 7:10,11).

This is where marriage becomes extremely personal. If the marriage is becoming unbearable between the spouses the Bible says that we can depart "separate" not "divorce". It's during this separation (if not for adultery) that each party must have the heart of God, to come before Him honestly and sincerely and ask Him "What do YOU want for me to do in this?" His response normally will always be where His heart is; restoration, forgiveness, humility and trust Him to work it out.
