Today in our Monday Manna circle we will talk about prayer. Prayer is our dialogue with God. It’s not something that is very popular, yetit is needed. Most Christians will do everything else before they pray. I can remember when I was going through one of my darkest hours. My husband had just informed me that he no longer wanted to be married and that he was going to be leaving the home. In my mind I was confused, hurt, angry, and upset. Although I was feeling all of these emotions, I knew God was going to give me a peace about it all. I knew this because I had a solid prayer life. As the days grew closer for him to leave, I began to ask God for direction. I didn’t have a clear understanding right
away. It took some time before it all came clear to me. It wasn’t until I activated my faith and truly leaned on God for EVERYTHING, that I was able to hear God. (Revelation 2:17) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. (Revelation 2:17) This was a faith move for me. I had to go from partially leaning and depending on another individual for 10years to totally depending on God for everything. There were a lot of days where I would ask God, “What happened?” “Did I miss you?” “Did I do something wrong?” “Did I make you angry?” It wasn’t until I began to go to God in prayer that I really got an answer. The answer wasn’t a direct answer about my marriage, but it was a direct answer about my life. I say that to say this. There are times in your life when you will be at the end of your rope. You will feel like you have no more options, but when you take it to the Lord in prayer, he shows up. Prayer is our communication with God. This is how we get instructions from him. If we never spend time with God, how will we know what he is trying to communicate . Prayer is where you can leave everything at his feet. The word lets us know in (Romans 8:26) In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. This reminds us that even when we don’t have any words for God, he understands. When the situation hurts to the point that you cannot pray, God understands. So when you have no words and you don’t think that your prayers are being heard, let the spirit make intercession for you and watch God Hear and answer your prayers. Whatever you do, don’t stop praying!
A word to
those who counsel or assist people in ending their marriages ……Specifically, I
would like to address those that provide legal counsel...divorce attorneys. Aside from viewing clients seeking divorce as
simply a means of livelihood (a paycheck), I believe some attorneys think they
are helping and may even go so far as to think their hands are clean, whether
the intentions are to help or not. They
may even identify their faith as “Christian” and believe divorce is completely
acceptable, particularly given the existence of certain situations. But
scripture tells us in Mark 10:7-9;
This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is
joined to his wife, and the two are
united into one. Since they are no
longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.
Whoa….. now wait
a minute, who has made the couple one?
Not a pastor or a matchmaker or even the couple themselves, but
God! That should make everyone stop in
their tracks! Where is the reverential
fear for God today? We could all stand to have the fear of God. There are many blessings to be gained from it
(do a personal study on the topic of the fear of God). Furthermore, what power or authority does any
man have to dissolve what GOD has
any attorney attempt to assist one or both spouses in destroying what GOD has
joined together? Where is the peace in
doing such a thing? This statement
really goes for anybody ……mother/father, sister/brother, best friend, neighbor,
co-worker, lover, etc …… but the focus here is legal counsel. Unfortunately,
the involvement of legal counsel is often where a worse situation tends to pick
up speed and become even more worse (not correct grammar, I know, but added for
emphasis). Attorneys are often given the
privilege of being one of the first voices of reason outside of the client’s
circle of influence. That voice could
say, “No, you really don’t want to do this, I strongly urge you to reconsider
and seek the path of reconciliation with your spouse instead. I will not
represent you for the purposes of championing divorce.” …..Vs….. “Well, let’s
get this paperwork started so that you can be “free” and “happy” again. You’re situation is terrible and I’m going to
get you the justice you deserve by skillfully navigating you through the
process of divorce. Since you clearly
don’t love them (or they don’t love you anymore), let’s begin.” The first statement might sound far-fetched
but there are many spouses who would have appreciated the attorney who met
their spouse with such words of opposition.
Instead two questions should be addressed. Is this the potential client's first marriage and also their spouse's first marriage? If there are no other living spouses we should re-think this petition for divorce. This marriage qualifies as a holy covenant marriage, which God says is not to be broken.
Do not be quick
to get caught up in the whirlwind of circumstances you may hear. Become familiar with Proverbs 18:17;
The first to plead his case seems right, until another comes
and examines him.
And I would
admonish you not to represent anyone just because you figure if you don’t
someone else will. We should never let
greed or fear dictate our choices.
who do not count themselves believers or followers of Christ, nonetheless,
God’s commands apply to everyone even if we choose to ignore them or walk in
ignorance. As for “Christian” attorneys
who believe divorce is perfectly normal and acceptable, given certain situations,
I would like to remind you of Proverbs 3:7;
Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the
Lord and turn away from evil.
My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders
away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings
the sinner back will save that person from death and bring about the
forgiveness of many sins.
off godly integrity for the world’s system.
Now, the law has its place and we do have to operate within its system
to an extent. But allow your faith in
Christ to influence every aspect of your life including how you conduct yourself
even in professional matters. Don’t let
evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good (Romans 12:21). And daily remember not to conform to the
pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans
divorce is epidemic and many marriages are operating out of selfishness and not
selflessness, do not be quick to involve yourself in destroying what God has joined together. Do not involve yourself in such matters as a
primary means to make money, in the end that money will not help you. It cannot be emphasized enough …. think twice
about your involvement and what side you will position yourself on. Know that the devil is a divider, but God is
a restorer. And if you count yourself a
follower of Christ do not simply pull out your Christian card for church
attendance. If you still haven’t been
convinced, recall that it is written; Whether, then you eat or drink or whatever
you do, do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Be an attorney
for the Lord, not for the devil.
AVOID NAYSAYERS. Don't allow anyone to speak negatively about your marriage. NAYSAYERS speak with no wisdom at all. When people say what they "won't do" and how they "will do" when they are not in that situation have proven just the opposite. We are taught that SHUT UP is a strong word, but for me it is the APPROPRIATE WORD for NAYSAYERS.
Today in our Monday Manna circle I want to take your faith to another level. The word of God says Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1) Faith is something that is not visible. You can't see faith, you just know it will happen. The word of God also lets us know that the Lord gives each of us a measure of faith. (Romans 12:3) This tells us that each of us have faith no matter what level it is. Some of us have mustard seed faith and some have the gift of faith. No matter where your faith is on today, it always has room to grow. I can remember a time in my life when I was unemployed. I was praying for a job and I told the Lord whatever agency that picks me up, that is the agency that I will go with. I was filling out at least 25 applications a day. When I got the call that I had a job, the job was 6 hours from where I was living at the time. I told God, "If you give me the position, you will make every provision for me when I get there." I came to my new city with $75.00. I didn't know where I was going to stay, I didn't know the area. I didn't have any family or friends there. I drove down a day before I had to start work and I went to a hotel to stay the night. The hotel was $45.00 for the night. I was left with $30.00 for the next 2 weeks until I got my first paycheck. I stayed the night and I said, "Lord, it's me and you." I went to work the next day. I did not know where I was going to stay for the rest of the week. I made some calls to the VA hospital and they gave me a list of places and charities to call. I called this catholic charity and they said they would pay for one week for me to rent a room. I said thank you Jesus. Every day I was there I trusted God for my next provision. The first weekend I was there, I went to see a place. The lady said I will work with you. You can move in next week. When I moved to my new town I had a car that was 17 yrs old. The car broke down in the middle of the road after the first -6 degree weather. The next day the Lord blessed me with a new car. Everything that I needed was there because That was my SET place. As believers we have to have faith. Without it, it is impossible to please God. I admonish you on today, if you lack faith, ask the Father to activate it for you. Faith is like anything else. You have to use it for it to work. Work your faith on this week and watch the Lord Exceed your expectations.
